Three Poems to Get Out of My Head and Out of My Journal

Early birds sing

3 am calls

The ceiling is getting closer

Lie on your back

Stare as the room shrinks

The bed creaks under you

Afraid

.

Twist your stomach

Feel the way it sinks

And churns

Ignore the way your thighs

Always stick together

In this summer heat

— — —

When do spiders know

The time to take down their webs?

.

To protect themselves from oncoming storms

Do they feel the thunder in their gut too?

.

Would I be safer knowing?

To sleep knowing there is a tomorrow?

— — —

Weight

Claw marks

Pull it all in

Tear it off

Feel the sitting weight

Of what you’ve done

.

Suck it up

It’s just how it is

You did this; It’s your fault

The weight pulls you

Down onto the bed

.

Everything is so hard

Why can’t you just

Lose it all

Get rid of it

The unwanted parts

.

Your stomach

It aches and moans

Spit the acid out

As you speak

The weight of the world
